about ghughuti basuti

Ghughuti Basuti is a blog dedicated to students across Uttarakhand- a space for their stories, lived experiences and reflections on nature, culture and sustainable lifestyles. Born of their journeys through the state of Uttarakhand and across its mountains, forests and farms, the blog seeks to preserve the fast-disappearing narratives and languages, while sharing the inspiring work of the young students with the wider world — in their own voice and from their own lived landscapes.

vision

Ghughuti Basuti draws its name from a Kumaoni phrase meaning “the sound of the dove.”

The ghughuti is considered a messenger finding mention in songs, festivals, and collective childhood memories. Its call echoes across valleys, as if carrying stories forward over time and space.

The name reflects the purpose behind the blog- to serve as a digital medium for preserving traditional knowledge, language and narratives and to make the accessible.
